Franklin Pierce University Hosts 16th Annual Academic Showcase Event
Apr 16, 2025

The Franklin Pierce University community gathered to celebrate its 16th Annual Academic Showcase on Tuesday, April 15, highlighting the scholarly and creative pursuits of students, faculty, and staff. The much-anticipated tradition took on the theme of “Imagine Nation”, and the day kicked off with President Peter Eden welcoming students, faculty, staff and guests in attendance at the morning poster session in Spagnuolo Hall. Associate Professor of Criminal Justice Jean Dawson, Chair of the Academic Showcase Committee, also expressed gratitude towards the students, faculty, and staff whose dedication makes the showcase a highlight each year.
Last year, the University announced the creation of the Dr. Kim Mooney Presidential Prize for Best Poster or Presentation in honor of her contributions and enduring support of the Academic Showcase. This year, two high-achieving students were presented the Presidential Prize by Dr. Catherine M. Paden, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
The first winner was Abigail Ainsworth ’25, a psychology major and criminal justice/forensic psychology minor, for her presentation “Charles Manson’s Behavior Explained Through Micro-Level Theories”. Abigail is passionate about studying the intersection of psychological disorders and criminal behavior and aspires to work in criminal profiling or forensic psychology.
The second prize was awarded to Domonic Montoya ’25, majoring in psychology with minors in sports media and sports & recreation management. Dominic has always been fascinated by the concept of neuroscience and how the brain can sustain serious damage from contact sports. His poster presentation highlighted Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBIs) and how various concepts in neuroscience can be utilized to emphasize the negative effects that TBIs may have on everyday life, as well as strategies athletes can use to cope with these injuries.
The day-long event featured an array of presentations that spanned diverse disciplines and interests, from “Broadcasting the NCAA Championship” to “Ravens, Owls and Eagles Building Scholars and Leaders through Collaborative Initiatives,” which highlighted the University’s multiple collaborative initiatives with the Jaffrey Rindge Cooperative School District. The annual event also included engaging sessions, including a Faculty Research Lightning Round, the intellectual challenge of the Brain Bowl, and an array of musical performances.
